About these records and the notice the county requires

Check against the survey: the 1,478 permits have a median declared value of $14,300; homeowners in the Washington, DC metro area reported $12,400 for deck, porch and patio additions (124 jobs, 2019, 2021 and 2023 surveys, 2026 prices).

The value is the value the applicant declared on the permit, not adjusted for price changes and rounded the same way as the other costs on this page. Of the 1,626 deck permits from these two years, 139 marked as the repair of an existing deck and 9 without a value are left out. Deck size is the area on the permit, for permits with 30 to 2,000 square feet (1,456 permits). The per-square-foot figure is the median of each permit's value divided by its area.
